Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns via the Contact form below. I look forward to being able to better serve the community moving forward by streamlining the repair process. Thank you very much for your continued support and taking the time to read this. My biggest goal with this pause and reset is to realign expectations with reality which will make a much better experience for all of us. This is an approach we have tried in the past but found that it ultimately did not work for a variety of reasons. For the time being, we will not be taking reservations or scheduling work for a future drop-off date. We will keep this page updated as well as making announcements via Facebook and Instagram to keep you informed of where we're at in this process. They also compete with my limited time to build custom guitars and tend to pile up and put us into this situation. I have always been an ambitious luthier who loves a challenge but the reality is that large, challenging jobs have never paid off financially compared to more straightforward work. We will not be able to accept any guitar refinishing and may or may not be able to accept large projects at any given time. I would like to fix that going forward, which will require making some changes to the kinds of work we are accepting. This has become something we have to do about once a year to clear the log jam. By limiting our intake to quick work, I am hopeful that we can work through our backlog in a timely manner and get return to normal operations. The temporary hold is on more substantial guitar repair, structural work, neck resets, full refretting, touchup work, crack repair, bridge reglues, etc. Our current estimated lead time on amplifier repair is approximately 3 months. If you are in a pinch and need a loaner amp, we may be able to provide one for you. It is not uncommon for a single job to take multiple days to complete. Sometimes what could be a major issue can be a quick fix and vice versa. The nature of amp repair is that you often don’t know what the root cause of a problem is until the amp is on the bench. We will also continue to accept tube amplifier repair with the caveat that we can not provide firm due dates for this service. These are two areas where we feel we can currently offer acceptable turnaround times. We will continue to accept guitar setup work, Martin warranty service and violin family repairs. 2023 Due to the limitations of time and space we need to put a temporary pause on accepting certain types of repair work. H aving specialized in classical string instruments of the violin family (violins, viola’s, cello’s and double basses) s ince 1989, I came into contact with many types of instruments and accessories, and I gradually realize that there is a great need for an online shop with respect to those instruments, strings and accessories because of the following shortcomings that I have encountered in South Africa: My son Cobus is working with me and is also an experienced instrument repairer. I work from my home in Pretoria, where I have my workshop. Qualified violinmakers from Mittenwald in Germany have also worked in my workshop which also provided valuable information regarding the making and restoration of stringed instruments.
